Demolition Derby event rules and Regulations
The high impact motor sports derby is promoted as an unusual spectator attraction in the interest of safety, drivers and machine are subject to, and must obey, the following rules and regulations which are set up by the promoter and the track where the event is being held.
- each driver must sign and fill out an entry blank, at the registration desk the day of the show, Every driver must have their drivers driver’s license at the time of registration, NO EXCEPTIONS, Every driver must have his or her car inspected at least one hour prior to show time, or a $25.00 late fee may be imposed.
- all drivers must supply their own cars, only one entry per person. Proof of ownership may be required on each car entered.
- all drivers and/or pit persons 16 or 17 years of age must have a notarized release signed by his or her parent or guardian, nobody 16 or under can be or drive in the pit area.
- all persons must sign the release sheet and receive a pit pass to be permitted in the pit area or on the track, drivers only to receive free pit pass upon registration, all other pit passes $15.00
- the track or promoter reserves the right to approve or reject any and all entries.
- all cars will be inspected so be LEGAL….
- no drinking or alcoholic beverages on track, in the emergency vehicle area, or in the pit area. Any driver or pit person under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be immediately disqualified and removed from the fair grounds.
- any driver or crew member disobeying the rules will cause his or her car to be disqualified, non-sportsman like conduct will not be tolerated and will be grounds for disqualification and barring from the future derbies. Drivers are responsible for the actions of their crew members.
- Contestants of the high impact motorsports are not employees of the high impact motorsports. High impact motorsports will not be responsible for any damage caused by a drivers negligence on the track or in the pit area.
- the promoter, track owner, or fair associations will not be held responsible for any cars, part’s, or personal property before, during, or after the show or left overnight.
TOWING AND TRANSPORTING CARS
Towing and transporting demolition derby cars to and from race locations, must meet highway safety codes (including proper light controls, safety chains, tow bars, towing trailers, ect,)
The derby will be composed of individual heats and one feature, with the grand prizes will be awarded after the feature. OFFICIALS DECISIONS ARE FINAL!
TYPES OF CARS
- remove all glass. Includes windshields, side windows, rear window, head and tail lights. Rolling windows down is not permitted.
- all autos must free of debris. NO junk tires, wheels, metal parts, broken glass, ect,,, are allowed in car.
- chrome moldings strips and the bottom portion of rear seats must be removed. All fiberglass or plastic front header panels must be removed.
- any sharp or protruding fins or dangerous objects must be mashed down or removed.
CHASSIS/FRAME
Steel plates, one-quarter (0.25”) inch thick twenty four (24”) inches long allowed welded over the humps of coil spring cars. Weld NOT ALLOWED on leaf spring cars. Where frame are damaged from prior derbies, welds cannot exceed one inch (1”) beyond damage areas… if u have any questions please call about the situation!!
Can weld frame seam from a-arm forward, weld must not exceed ½” wide,, must be on top frame seam only, must be a straight weld, must be one bead of weld only
No welding on frames or frame seams with the exception of weld over hump on coil spring cars and with A-arms allowances listed above. Anything found welded on frame seams other then specified will be grounds for disqualification with NO REFUNDS. DON’T TRY IT.. WE’LL FIND IT!!
Re-stubbing .. if re-stubbing frame of car, must be re-stubbed with the same model car.
BODY
Front end of vehicles can be tilted. Front body mount spacer can be a max of 6 inches high and 3 inches in diameter, no rubber spacers required for front body mounts.
One(1”) inch all thread allowed from body mount through hood for front mount only. This will count for 2 of your 6 places for wire or banding. Must be a 12” hole over carburetor,.
No welding on car body or body seams allowed other than doors( see door section for details) factory rubber body mounts must remain in between body and frame. No cutting down the rubber sleeve inside mount.. body bolts can’t be no bigger than ½ inch. You may use a 3 inch washer on inside of body, bottom holes in frame must remain open your washers may be put inside the frame only, any questions call.
RADIATOR
Radiator must be in original stock location. You may patch bottom or radiator support if needed must be flat stock and 1/16 x 2” strap.
HOODS
Hoods may be wired or banded in 6 places, no more than 2 strands of number 9 wire per hole. Sheet metal to sheet metal only. 2 of your bands or wires may go around frame, if u choose to use all thread through the hood this will count as 2 of your spots and your spots around the frame. Officials decision on over use of banding or wire is final. Latches must be removed from hoods. You must have opening over carburetor of at least 12”. You may weld washers on hood and fenders to run your banding/wire through.
TRUNKS, TAILGATES, AND HATCHES
You may weld or wire/band your trunks not both. If your weld you may use up to ¼ inch thick by 3 inches wide and can be welded 5 on 5 off this mean you may weld 5 inches then skip 5 inches . if choose wire/banding u may wire/band 10 spots with 2 of the 10 going around the frame, you may weld washers on trunk to run wire/banding through not to exceed 3 inch washers. Trunks may not be wedged on fresh cars outsides of trunk that meets the upper quarter panel must remain in factory position, center of trunk and speaker deck may be shoved down some to help with drivers view, cannot roll quarters over trunk. Tail of trunk may be folded inside trunk as long as quarters remain in stock location. NO EXCEPTIONS. If u have any questions call. 12 inch hole must be in center of trunk. U can still crease your quarters as long as they remain vertical and in stock location. On pre ran cars your trunk must still be off trunk floor by 12 inches if your car is in need of major repair then its best to call and we will discuss it. This will eliminate wedging a pre ran car that only has few dents in it or does not need to be.
DOORS
May be banded or wired in (6) places. No more than (2) two strands of # 9 wire per hole. Numbers are permitted. No profanity will be allowed on any portion of the car. You may weld a 3” washer to the outer body to run wire or band through. All doors may be welded. Drivers door can be welded all the way around. All other doors up to the windows. You may use ¼ “ by 3” wide metal for welding. Bar behind the seat cannot extend more than six inches (6”) beyond door post.
DRIVERS
All drivers must get out of their cars for inspection. In addition drivers must get out of their car when being inspected after heat and feature.
BUMPERS
No homemade bumpers permitted, may weld metal inside bumpers, may weld outer skin to inter, Bumpers must appear stock, must not have bolt or sharp objects protruding from bumper. Fenders and bumper ends may be trimmed for wheel clearance. Bumper maximum height (25”) inches to the bottom of the bumper. Bumper minimum is (15”) inches to the bottom of the bumper. No bolting of bumpers to sheet metal. Bumper shocks may be welded. Cannot add metal in any manner to weld on your bumpers. You may hard nose your bumper and must use a factory style bracket or shock to do so. ONLY EXCEPTION is on small cars you may make a homemade shock but must not exceed (10”) inches long and must not be any larger than (2”) inches in diameter. This will be strictly enforced! Any one not clear on the issue call or text.
SUSPENSION
(9) Nine leaf springs with a (1”) inch stagger between each spring. Must have a working shackle, Expectation… Pre 1973 GM cars, do not have to have a working shackle. 3/8 maximum spring thickness and 2 ½ “ wide. No more than (4) spring clamps per side. Max clamp width 3” and bolts no more than ½ inch diameter. No gussets on spring clamps. No main over main. Coil sprung cars may be leafed. When putting leaf springs under a coil sprung car “box frame” you may weld a 3” washer to both sides of the frame to run a shackle bolt through. No strap across top or bottom of frame on 74 or newer cars. On 73 and older C- channel framed cars u may box in a 3” inch section to mount rear of leaf springs. Rear springs on both sides may have to be able to loosen from axle to rear shackle for inspection purpose. Rear spring clamps must be removable. Front spring perch may be homemade and no more than ¼ inch thick, no more than 3-1/2 inches wide by ¼ inch thick. Must be a working shackle. Shackle bolt size max of 5/8 bolt.. Front suspension may be solid replacing shock with max of 1” all thread front and rear. Option B for front is welding a 3” inch wide by ¼ inch thick piece of metal from bottom control arm to frame may not go all the way up the frame can only go half way up frame. Spring risers are allowed between coil springs, leaf springs may be flat or arched no negative arch. Leafs may be spring steal or cold rolled steel but must not be welded together to make one solid pack.
TIRES/WHEELS
Any type of rubber tire is allowed you may double or stuff your tires. Valve stem protectors are allowed as long as there safe any piece welded to wheel that we feel is not safe you will be asked to remove for the safety of the fans and other drivers. No homemade wheels allowed you may not run wheels protectors or bead locks. You may use the weld In wheel centers.
GAS TANK AND GAS TANK PROTECTORS
Stock gas tanks must be removed from car. Only allowable gas tanks are metal boat tanks and fuel cells. Tanks must be placed in front of rear axle behind the driver’s seat. All gas tanks must be securely fastened to floor and covered. Gas lines and fittings to fuel tank must be secure and leak proof. Only metal or rubber gas lines permitted NO PLASTIC LINES!! NO PLASTIC TANKS!! Officials will inspect tank and fittings and their say is final on approval and safety of tanks. Gas tank protector must come off back seat bar can go back to the rear hump area this can touch the sheet metal but cannot be welded or bolted to frame or sheet metal. Gas tank protector cannot exceed more than 24” wide
BATTERY
May have only one battery any size is allowed. it must be placed in floor board of drivers compartment, securely fastened and covered.
RUNNING
- Safety belt, helmet, and some form of eye protection are required
- No shorts allowed. you will not run if you have shorts on!
- Sandbagging and teaming will not be tolerated
- Separation of stuck cars at discretion of officials (safety reasons or last 2 cars running)
- No deliberate head on collisions and no deliberate drivers door collisions
- Vehicle must have dependable breaks at all time and boundaries must be observed.
- No cars permitted in the competition area before the heat in which they participate.
- A driver will be disqualified if the driver’s door comes open at any time.
- One minute limit is enforced by the track officials for re-starts and making competitive contact with another car. Hits must be aggressive. Simple contact within the time limit does not constitute combat and could be considered sand bagging.
- All cars are to be removed from the fairgrounds or race track following the show or they will become the property of high impact motor sports and the officials will have them removed.
- A $50.00 dollar protest fee is required to contest another car. Protest must be made by another driver. No protest allowed after drivers meeting.
- No riding on outside of cars any time due to insurance regulations.
- Boundaries must be observed at all times. Any car shoved of driven out of bounds or is on or over a post or tire, may be immediately disqualified if derby officials feel it is a safety hazard
COMPACT TRUCK, MINIVANS, AND SUVs
The rules are the same as the cars except for the following listed:
- Gas tanks must be in the center of bed against cab.
- (5 leaf springs max) no main over main 1 inch stagger.
- Trucks tailgates can be welded solid.
- Truck beds can be welded solid to the cab.
- 4-wheel drive must have drive shaft removed.
(ADDITIONAL SAFETY REGULATIONS MAY BE IMPOSED DEPENDING ON TRACK)
Titles must be turned in for all cars left for junk….
Rules subject to change without notice according to high impact motor sports.
ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS OF ENTRY FEES.
STOCK CLASS RULES
TYPE OF CARS
Full size cars only. No imperials
PREPARATION OF CAR
- Remove all glass. Includes windshields, side windows, rear windows, head and tail lights. Rolling windows down is not permitted.
- All autos must be free of debris. No junk tires, wheels, metal parts, broken glass ect… are allowed in car.
- Chrome molding strips and the bottom portion of rear seats must be removed. On station wagons, all rear seats and deck lids must be removed. All fiberglass or plastic front header panels must be removed.
- Any sharp or protruding fins or dangerous objects must be mashed down and/or cut off.
CHASSIS/FRAME
No welding at all on frame. No creasing of frame. No tilting of frame. Only frame that can be welded is motor mounts, bumpers, and cross member. U may weld a 3 inch piece of angle on inside of frame on newer cars to bolt cross member to. Body bolts must be stock. U may stack 2 factory mounts on top of one another in the front of a ford to get clearance for using a chevy motor, but must be stock mounts no homemade what so ever this is allowed for clearance not for strength. Radiator must remain in stock location of car.
HOOD
Hoods may be wired or banded in a max of 6 places. There must be a hole cut over the carburetor. 12×12”. No welding washers or extra bolts allowed.
TRUNKS/TAILGATES/HATCHES
May be banded or wired in 6 places. No welding of washers, no extra bolts or screws. There must be a 12×12 inch hole in center of trunk. You may fold the tail of the trunk in at a 90 degree angle if u choose to do this trunk must be open for inspection.
DOORS
Drivers door may be welded all the way around. All other doors may be wired or welded if welded there is only allowed 2 places per door seem 3inch by 3inch plate ¼ in thick. If you do not understand the rule please call.
BUMPERS

Stock suspension only no expectations! Only thing you can do is twist in spring risers. No homemade risers.
REARENDS
Must be stock 5 lug rear-end. You may change rear ends from one make of car to the other but it must remain stock oem rear. You can weld gears in rear. You may #9 wire you coils to rear to keep them from falling off
TIRES/WHEELS
